Capricorn Technologies Increases Storage Density with the TB80 and GB2000 PetaBox Products
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
San Francisco, CA, July 27, 2005 – Capricorn Technologies today announced the TB80 and GB2000, the newest members of the PetaBox family of storage products.
The TB80 provides 80 terabytes of raw storage in a standard 19-inch rack. It is based on GB2000 storage nodes, which provide 2.0 terabytes of storage in each 1U enclosure. The systems are able to provide high storage density while keeping power dissipation to a minimum. By carefully managing the power budget, operating temperatures are reduced and reliability is enhanced. Operating costs, cooling requirements, and maintenance overhead are also kept to a minimum. Together with the PetaBox’s economical entry point, these feature yield the lowest Total Cost of Ownership available today.
“Once again we have demonstrated our commitment to staying at the leading edge of storage density and low power,” said C.R. Saikley, President and CEO of Capricorn. “With the introduction of these two new products, we are able to reduce power consumption to 40 watts per terabyte. A terabyte lets you store a million books, and 40 watts is less power than the light bulb you’d use to read one.”
Features included in the TB80 and GB2000 are:
- 2.0TB per node
- 80TB per 19-inch rack
- 40 Watts/TB
- 10/100 or 10/100/1000 Ethernet
- Single-side access
Products are shipping and are available in full production quantities now.
